Engagement Ring Trends For 2019
Although the diamond solitaire remains our most popular ring, each year we see micro-trends – Couples that are looking for something a bit different. Typically, ring trends are influenced by either celebrity choices or new designs offered by top ring designers. Below, DePrisco Jewelers engagement ring specialists reflect on the micro-trends they have seen over the past year.
The Trends
TREND: Oval Cut Diamonds – Oval diamonds make a gorgeous ring. They look larger on the finger than other diamond shapes, elongate the finger and can be a bit less expensive per carat weight than the classic round diamond.
TREND: Fancy Cuts – Although the classic round solitaire diamond remains our most popular cut year after year, we’ve sold quite a few ovals, pears and cushion-cut diamonds in 2019. Celebs have been choosing a wide range of diamond shapes lately, inspiring brides-to-be in choosing non-traditional cuts that may be more aligned with their personal style.
TREND: Sapphire Accents – After Meghan Markle’s cushion-cut diamond engagement ring, we’ve seen a greater interest in this diamond cut. – Similar to Princesses Diana’s Blue Sapphire ring now worn by Kate Middleton, blue sapphires have always been popular in Boston and work beautifully as either a center stone or as accent stones around a diamond.
TREND: Mixed Metals – ArtCarved, one of our top ring designers is now offering a beautiful new line of white gold rings with hand-carved floral design in yellow or rose gold inside that adds an unexpected pop of color. This mixed-metal trend is new and something we expect to stick around. It’s an understated touch that makes a ring unique and special without being over the top.
TREND: Intricate Shoulder Accents – Floral patterns and geometric mosaic designs with accent diamonds on the ring shoulder are a thing ths year. This trend adds additional flair and style to a ring. Floral patterns can give an updated vintage look while geometric can appear more modern.
TREND: Twisted or Braided Bands –An intertwined split shank band often with pave diamond accent stones. There are a wide variety of twisted band styles available from subtle and delicate to bold and modern.
